Join us at DesignPhiladelphia — the only festival of its kind in the country that showcases the work of practicing architects, designers, and creative professionals. The Festival kicks off in October and Live and Learn is excited to be participating with two events! Philadelphia is an epicenter of design innovation for play spaces that build children’s skills, support their emotional-social growth, and increase school readiness. KSS Architects, WRT, Pennrose and Community Ventures are involved with Live and Learn, a pilot initiative that seeks to expand educational equity by embedding Playful Learning into the design and construction of two affordable-housing developments in the Sharswood neighborhood and in North Central Philadelphia.

Learn about this vitally important work at an engaging information session featuring a panel discussion with the architects, developers, and community members from both sites.

A Graphic Novel Come to Life at a Philadelphia Affordable Housing Development

October 10 at 12 PM

Location:

Community Room at Susquehanna Square

1421 W. Susquehanna Square, Philadelphia, PA

Imagine a city in which Playful Learning is an integral part of the construction plan for ALL affordable housing developments. Consider the impact that it could have in providing skill-building opportunities and increasing school readiness for children who reside there. Look no further than Philadelphia to experience how the education equity needle is moving!

Leading the effort is Live and Learn, a pilot initiative that is embedding Playful Learning into the design and construction of two affordable housing developments. What is Playful Learning? How does it find its way into construction plans, architecture, and the environment? How is it fabricated? What does it look like? Join us for an overview and walking tour in North Central Philadelphia where  KSS Architects has partnered with developer Community Ventures  and the local community residents to make this idea a SUPER powerful reality.

For participants who attend the Live and Learn event on Oct. 9th, this hands-on tour will bring that session to life.

The tour is hosted by the Live and Learn team, including Watchdog, Playful Learning Landscapes Action Nework, MGD, KSS Architects, and Community Ventures in partnership with ULI Philadelphia and The Carpenters’ Company.
